    In the original Latin.

    With its publication generally believed to have been in or after AD 177, this is a commonplace book, or compilation of notes on grammar, philosophy, history, antiquarianism, and other subjects, preserving fragments of the works of many authors who might otherwise be unknown today.

    The work of Roman author and grammarian Aulus Gellius, who was probably born and certainly brought up in Rome.

    Illustrated with an engraved title page.

    Former owner's inscription of W. H. Mason to the front free endpaper.

    Rebacked, retaining original endpapers.

    With the register: [2] A-2G12, 2H8. Errata to verso of leaf 2H8. Collated, complete.

    This volume includes notes on grammar, geometry, philosophy, history and many other subjects.

    Condition

    Rebacked, in a full calf binding, retaining the original endpapers. Significant rubbing and small losses of calf to board perimeters, back strip head and tail and joints. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, text block separated in two places, resulting in pages 315 to 526 being tenderly held. Pages lightly age toned, but clean.
