What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Very Scarce
Originally issued in 1610 as 'Herod and Pilate Reconciled'. The pamphlet discusses puritans and the divine right of Kings. The first chapter states 'The first Chapter proveth by the testimony of scripture, that Kings are not punishable by man, but reserved to the judgment of God'. There are references to scripture to the margin to support Owen's points.
ESTC reference no R36621.
The re-issuing of this work coincided with the start of the Civil War in England. Charles I was nearly bankrupt and tensions were high in Parliament and in the royal household. This is an important piece of contemporary royalist propaganda and is extremely scarce.
Condition
In the original paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. Light shelfwear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Minor fading to the final leaf. Otherwise, just the odd spot to pages.
